Steven Minter is the former director of the Cleveland Foundation, and his topic was Economic Development and Community Building. Here is a summary of the issues participants discussed with Mr. Minter:

  • Brushed aside medical mart
  • Why not spend money for small businesses!
  • Speed up demolition, land acquisition and have more green space
  • Understand significance of arts and cultures role of economic development in Cleveland
  • More promotion, marketing and selling of Cleveland as a place to live
  • Youth in Cleveland is encouraging

  1. The point “Understand significance of arts and cultures role of economic development in Cleveland” is particularly valid. Cleveland might not have the same industry as it used to in the past, but it does have great arts. Only a handful of institutions get mentioned in that context, like The Cleveland Orchestra; but Cleveland has a lot more to offer. I think that we need to publicize the arts as our asset to attract people to Cleveland and to expand the local support base.
